FAQS OF MOVING
SUCCESSFUL & STRESS FREE

Should I Tip My Movers?

It’s customary to show appreciation to your moving crew by tipping. Typically, you can tip between 10% and 20% of the total moving cost. For example, if your bill is $1000, a tip ranging from $100 to $200 is appropriate. Alternatively, you can tip based on time: $20 to $30 per mover for half a day, or $40 to $50 per mover for a full day.

How Much Will My Move Cost?

The cost of your move depends on the size of your home and the items to be moved. Services range from moving only your furniture to relocating the entire contents, including packed boxes. The more prepared you are, the more efficiently your move will proceed. Note that every job requires a minimum of three hours, plus a travel fee.

Is Additional Valuation Necessary?

All moving companies are required by law to provide coverage at 60 cents per pound. If you need extra protection, discuss additional valuation options with a move coordinator. Enhanced coverage will require a premium payment, an extra person for inventory, and professional packing of items. Only items packed by the movers are covered under this valuation during transit.

What Should I Pack and Take With Me?

Prepare a “moving essentials” box or bag with important items you’ll want easily accessible. Pack this last, and keep it with you instead of in the moving truck. This way, you’ll have what you need without searching through your boxes. You should also bring a “first night” box and personal bags to cover your needs for the first 24 to 48 hours.

  • Household: Important documents, keys, wallet, toolkit, cleaning supplies, first-aid kit, flashlight, food and water, pet supplies
  • Personal items: Toiletries, prescription medications, bedding, electronics and chargers, children’s essentials
  • Other: Kitchen basics, packing supplies, cleaning tools

How Far in Advance Should I Book a Mover?

If you’re planning a move during busy periods such as summer or holidays, try to book your mover at least a month ahead. Otherwise, booking two to three weeks in advance is usually sufficient, especially if you require a specific date or have a larger home.

What Should I Do Before My Movers Arrive?

  • Plan to be present all day during the move.
  • Arrange care for children and pets to keep them safe and comfortable.
  • Set up a “no load” zone for items you want to transport yourself.
  • Make an inventory of your most valuable possessions, such as jewelry, firearms, medicines, collectibles, and artwork.
  • Sort through your belongings and get rid of anything you don’t want or need.

What Kind of Materials Should I Pack With?

Always use moving boxes, as misshaped or oddly sized boxes don’t stack well and slow down the loading process. Avoid free liquor or Amazon boxes due to their inconsistent sizes. Tape all boxes securely instead of folding or interlocking the ends. Never use trash bags for packing, as they tear easily and can’t be loaded efficiently with a dolly, which will delay your move. Packing Tips to Follow:

  • Start by packing items you will not need in advance.
  • Make sure all breakables are individually wrapped.
  • All items need to be placed in the box so that contents fit snug. Use linens to help fill the space.
  • Pack all boxes to the top. This alleviates the box from crushing and prevents breakage. (Just remember to pack tight and full).
  • Furniture such as dressers, nightstands and chest of drawers may be left packed with clothes and linen only.
  • Avoid mixing items from different rooms in the same boxes.
  • Remove and Pack anything of value and/or breakables. Keep them safe in your care.
  • Large cabinets, armoires and/or triple dressers must be unloaded and packed.
  • Fragile/antique pieces of furniture are recommended to remove items from the drawers. The wood is very dry, and legs of such furniture tend to be weak and brittle.
  • Put detailed labels on tops and sides of all boxes.
  • Important legal documents, valuables, and family medical records should be personally transported and packed when you first start packing.
  • We are not liable for lost, stolen or damaged items left in drawers.
